It is important to know that not all herbs are the same, and the manner
in which they are grown and harvested can make a difference in there
potency and effectiveness.
Organic herbs refer to herbs that are grown without the used of chemical
fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides and are free from genetic modification
or enhancements. Organic is a legal term which refers to a certification
process in which growers must apply for. In order to be able to be
certified organic, producers must submit to annual inspections and
submit to rigorous standards that cover a broad range environmental
aspects such as growing methods, farm animal welfare, as well as processing
and packaging. Bulk organic herbs are commonly sold to supermarkets
and health food stores and farmers markets for consumers. Organic
herb garden kits can be purchased online for home use, and information
on organic farmers and products can be accessed by contacting the

Wild crafted herbs are somewhat controversial because many wild crafted
herbs and their habitats are ecologically threatened. Some species
have been harvested almost to extinction or habitats have been destroyed
during the harvesting process. When purchasing wild crafted herbs
look for companies that are label their products as “Responsibly
Wild Crafted” or “Carefully Wild Crafted”. These
are usually harvested with minimal environmental impact, and are often
replanted with long-term sustainability in mind.
Cultivated herbs are herbs that are farmed for mass production. They
are often genetically engineered and are usually fumigated, irradiated,
and sprayed with insecticides, pesticides and fungicides. Cultivated
herbs are usually the mist economic type of herb available, and are
safely consumed by millions of people each year. However, it is important
to keep in mind that there is some controversy as to what are the
long term heath risk associated with exposure and consumption of pesticides
and chemical additives. Continue to :
